NACIS Grants and Awards
NACIS has travel/grant/membership initiatives that invest in the future growth and strength of the organization.  These initiatives (1) recognize the importance of student membership in NACIS, (2) encourage student attendance and participation at the annual fall meeting, and (3) support the attendance of general NACIS members to attend the annual meeting who could not otherwise attend due to financial limitations. Travel grant awardees are expected to attend the entire conference. Applicants who are actively participating in the meeting (e.g., with a presentation, participation in a panel, are bringing a poster, or are presenting at Practical Cartography Day) will receive the strongest consideration for travel grants. The three initiatives are described below, as well as all application processes.

Please submit your applications via email to: Amy Griffin awards@nacis.org

1.  Free NACIS Membership to Undergraduate Students
NACIS will provide 10 free student memberships each year to undergraduate students.  Any undergraduate student enrolled full-time in a 4-year, degree granting institution pursuing a degree in geography or related discipline qualifies.

Applicants should submit a one-page letter of request, explaining how membership in NACIS will benefit educationally.  Applications should include name, surface AND email address, the school attended, name of academic advisor and grade level (e.g., freshman, sophomore, etc.).  A student may apply and receive this membership award no more than two times (e.g., in junior and senior year), but must apply for each year to be considered. Enclose with application a brief statement from one's advisor verifying qualification for this membership award. Must be received by 11:59pm by August 31, 2010.

2. Travel Grants for Students Attending NACIS
NACIS will provide $200 travel grants to students to attend the annual NACIS conference.  Any NACIS member who is a student enrolled full-time in a 4-year, degree granting institution pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in geography or related discipline qualifies.

Applicants should submit a one-page letter of request explaining how attendance at the conference will be of benefit professionally/educationally.  Include on a separate page a budget with all travel expenses explained, including any other financial support to attend the conference, along with a statement of any and all current and previous financial support provided by NACIS.  Applications should include name, surface AND email address, the school attending, name of academic advisor and if graduate/undergraduate.

Enclose with application a brief statement from one's advisor verifying qualification for this travel grant.
Signed applications must be received by 11:59pm by August 31, 2010.
